This protocol is developed in accordance with STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology). (Ref. 1)

Study design

Setting and data source
Public hospitals in the Capital and Zealand Regions of Denmark (Eastern Denmark). Data originate from Sundhedsplatformen (Epic Systems) and are processed within the TRIPLE-A data warehouse.

Data are extracted via the TRIPLE-A pipeline, validated, cleaned and summarized according to the TRIPLE-A handbook and database specifications.

Bias and missing data
In brief, the data quality is dependent on the registrations in the electronic health record system. Administration of medications, surgeries, admissions, readmissions, and length of stay-variables are generally of very high quality, while health-care worker-dependent variables, such as pain scores, can be subject to errors and bias. ${opt(F.bias_missing)}
